Notes: The most unfortunate statement by Bryan: “Dr. J.A. Bryan, another honorary member of the body, told of the sacrifices the men were making to do their part in the war in every branck of service. He said the boys in khaki were dying for the same cause for which the Savior died on the Cross.” Seems this unfortunate conflation of spiritual and nation was driven by his love for his country, as well as his son’s service for it. The ‘boys in khaki’ were indeed self-sacrificial, as Christ was, but their service was not the same cause.
