| GODLY Sorrow 1/29/12
2 Corinthians 7: 8-11 Killen 8 For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it. For I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though only for a while. 9 Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter. By these verses we see how important it is to have sorrow in our life. Sometimes we focus on the joys of God and the desire to overcome our sorrows that we forget how important it is to have for each of us to have a time of sorrow. It's when we allow the conviction of the Holy Spirit to deal with our hearts. To feel how our sins wound or hurt God. Nathan vs David. 2 Sam. 12: 1-4. We condemn ourselves. We should have no mercy! A time where we grieve / mourn over our sins. When we accept the fact WE ARE THE ONE THAT HAS HURT GOD. Acts 2:37 We are separated from God. Deserve it. Result: Wish we never would have done them. Completely want to changed. Want to be restored to God. 1 Repentance: change of direction. New heart. (v8) 2 Salvation that we don't want to turn away from. LK 9:62 (v10) Second chance, that you make good. 3 Not a worldy sorrow. Condemns never frees Romans 8:28 (v10) works death. Depression to suicide. |
