| Jim Massengill
Jim has been a member of the Killen UMC for about 14 years. During this time he has served on several committees as well as the Administrative Board. He currently enjoys participating and singing in the chancel choir. He is a member of and enjoys attending the “Class 10” Sunday School Class. He has been married to Ruth for three wonderful years and now has four step-grandchildren that he both loves and appreciates being a part of his life. Jim dedicated his life to Christ when he was in high school. He has always tried to order his life to Christ and be what Christ has wanted him to be. His favorite verse is John 3:16. Jim loves to fish, travel, and do woodwork. He also enjoys gardening and working in his yard. Jim's favorite color is green, yet he loves the color silver on automobiles! ( And red on small sports cars!) Jim loves pork chops, white beans and any kind of greens. He loves to eat at Demos and Legends, both in Florence. His favorite movie is anything with John Wayne in it. Jim is described by his peers as easy going with a very optimistic and good out look on life. Although he believes most people would probably call him an “old stick in the mud”, most people and all his friends say Jim is a very friendly type of man. Jim likes the Killen UMC because it's where all his friends are. He feels truly that Killen UMC is more than just people; it's his real family. When his first wife died, it was the Killen UMC people that really helped him through such a hard and difficult time. His favorite memory of Killen UMC is when he and Ruth got married. The time in his life when he felt the presence of God the most was when his wife,Easter, died. He said he found himself praying more than he ever had, and God brought to his heart peace, joy, and comfort. Jim's life saying is: Live life one day at a time, and try your best to life each day to the fullest! I really appreciate Jim and Ruth being a part of the Killen UMC. I have never met either of them when they didn't have a smile on their face. Jim and Ruth are both very warm and friendly and always make you feel welcome in their presence. I know God has used them both in the ministries of Killen and continue to use them to bring encouragement to others! God Bless You Both! bro bryan |

| Facing Adversity
But now, this is what the Lord says–He who created you, O Jacob, He who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk though the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. Isaiah 43:1-2 Jesus never promised us that life would be free from adversities and trials. In fact in John 16:33, Jesus plainly said, “In this world you will have tribulation!” Yet many Christians believe that we are entitled to be exempt from all problems and tribulations, and if this is not our experience in life then it can only be because we do not have enough faith, or we are doing something wrong. But from a closer look at the words of Isaiah, we find the truth that God promises to all of us while we are here on this earth. When you go through the trials of life, I WILL BE WITH YOU! Sometimes it’s not until we face the fires, winds, and floods of life that we experience God’s presence with us. Not that it is only in these times that He comes to us, but it’s in these times that we have a tendency to turn to Him and seek His face diligently, only to discover that His nearness and presence is there and in truth has always been there with us. From Isaiah 43:1-2, John 16:33, and other scriptures we see that adversities are rarely avoided. But whenever facing any adversity, trial, or difficulty God’s promise is that He will always be with us. We need to be woven into the strength of God and allow His presence with us to lessen the magnitude and impact of all tribulations we face. Psalms 23:4,5 reminds us that our focus is to be on the Lord being with us when we walk through the valleys of the shadows of death, and that God prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemies. This assures us of the fact that He promises to intervene in our circumstances to lessen the impact of all the enemy tries to do to steal our security, comfort, and joy in the Lord. Corrie Tenboom once said, ``Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.'' Let not what we face today or what we worry about tomorrow empty us of the strength we already have by God’s continual presence with us! Bro Bryan |
